Colour tattoo removal: Everything you need to know
Tattoo clearing
If you have an unwanted tattoo, you might be concerned about the reputation that some tattoo ink colours have for being harder to remove than simple black ink tattoos.

Whilst a colour tattoo is definitely trickier to remove than black, the success of your removal ultimately comes down to your skin type and the exact colours you have in your tattoo.

So, while laser tattoo removal treatment is a great way to get rid of unwanted tattoos, the number of treatment sessions you’ll need to remove a colour tattoo will depend on you and your tattoo.

                Can you remove colour tattoos?
Yes, colour tattoos are suitable for laser tattoo removal, but some colours are more difficult to remove than others. Also, while it's possible to remove black ink from dark skin, we cannot remove coloured ink if you have skin type that falls within types 4, 5 and 6 on the Fitzpatrick scale. The level of melanin in these skin types would be targeted and potentially harmed by the lasers we use for colour ink leading to hypopigmentation.
What's the easiest tattoo colour to remove?
Darker colours absorb a broader spectrum of light. This means that most laser wavelengths are capable of penetrating darker ink particles, shattering them so that the body can flush them out. For that reason, darker tattoos made up of black, dark blue, dark green, and deep purple are generally the easiest to remove.
What's the hardest tattoo colour to remove?
Because lighter colours absorb only a narrow range of wavelengths, this generally means that lighter tattoo pigment will be harder to remove, such as light green, light blue, and fluorescent ink, with white ink the hardest tattoo colour to remove using laser light. Lighter tattoos may therefore require more treatments, or leave subtle traces of colour in the skin.

Every person and every tattoo is unique, so everyone reacts differently to the laser tattoo removal process.

What is the best way to remove coloured ink tattoos?
Laser is the safest and quickest option for any colour tattoo removal. Laser removal treatment offers the most effective way of getting rid of your coloured tattoo completely.

One of the most significant factors that influences laser colour tattoo removal is the wavelength of the laser being used.

At NAAMA, our LightSense technology is the only system in the world that uses a 800nm wavelength. Why does this make a difference? Because it means that the system can remove more colours on the colour spectrum.

                The importance of aftercare
As well as the latest, most effective and safest laser technology, your aftercare routine is just as important as the procedure itself as
Our golden rules for laser tattoo removal aftercare here at NAAMA are:
- Keep your medical-grade dressing on for 72 hours post treatment.
 - Avoid exposing the treated area to the sun during the first few days afterwards.
 - Keep the area well moisturised using our specially formulated aftercare creams.
 - Avoid intense exercise, steam rooms, saunas, and hot baths for 72 hours.
 - Don’t do anything that could irritate your skin, such as waxing, exfoliating, tweezing, or threading until the area has healed.
